Preparing for a Pet Emergency: What to Keep in Your Emergency Kit

Preparing for a Pet Emergency before Emergency Vet Care from a Veterinarian Near You at Our Animal Hospital

At East Valley Emergency Pet Clinic, located in Diamond Bar, CA, our emergency vet team is here for you 7 days a week. We handle emergencies like excessive bleeding, a fractured bone, toxic ingestion, auto accidents, animal bites, and heatstroke.

Pet First Aid

Our vet care facility and emergency vet care services cam help ensure that your pet will get the treatment and care he or she needs. However, there are times when immediate help from an animal hospital may not be available or you may need to provide care yourself. That's why our team may suggest having a pet first aid kit on hand in your home and potentially your vehicle in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

What You Might Need

Emergencies can be chaotic, and it's not the time to scramble to try to gather everything your pet needs. We've provided this handy list of what to keep in your pet's emergency kit.

Start by getting a sturdy (preferably waterproof) container that's large enough to hold all the items, like a small cooler, backpack, or plastic storage box. Consider putting some of these items inside:

•           A copy of your pet's medical records

•           A recent photo

•           Phone number for pet poison control and emergency vets

•           Saline eye wash

•           Oral activated charcoal for toxic ingestion (always ask a vet first)

•           Disposable rubber gloves

•           Oral syringe

•           Clean towels

•           Hydrogen peroxide

•           Tweezers (to remove ticks and splinters)

•           Small scissors

•           Gauze pads and wrap

•           Extra collar and leash
