Pet Safety Tips for Halloween in Diamond Bar
Halloween is a time of great fun for kids and parents, but it can also be a time of stress and injury for pets. At East Valley Emergency Pet Clinic in Diamond Bar, we help pet owners take care of their pets at this exciting and spooky time of year.
Follow These Guidelines from our Diamond Bar Vet to Keep Your Pet Safe
The following tips will help you keep your pet safe:
- Provide your pet with a Halloween costume that does not block your pet's vision. If your pet will be dressing up for the holiday, be sure to give your pet a costume that allows him or her to see properly.
- Keep your Halloween candy out of your pet's reach. Sugar isn't good for pets, and some candy, like chocolate, can be toxic. Keep your Halloween candy away from your pet to ensure that your pet is safe.
- Keep your pet away from the door on Halloween night if your pet shows signs of stress. Pets can get anxious out when strangers show up at the door. If your pet shows signs of stress on Halloween night, keep him or her away from the door when trick-or-treaters come.
- Put reflective gear on your pet if you plan to bring your pet out trick-or-treating. Many pets are in danger of being hit by a car when they're taken out for a walk in the dark. To ensure that your pet is safe, make your pet wear reflective gear.
- Talk to your children about not feeding Halloween candy to your pet. Small children may be tempted to give their pet candy. You can prevent your pet from being poisoned by teaching your children not to feed Halloween candy to your pet.
