Spay and Neuter

Spay And Neuter Your Pets At Easy Valley Emergency Pet Clinic

At East Valley Emergency Pet Clinic, one of the most important things we recommend for keeping your pet safe is to spay and neuter them, especially in the first year. Spaying and neutering is a simple procedure that can be done in your veterinarian's office, with a recovery time of just a few days. Spaying and neutering is the simple act of preventing unwanted litters, but it has a wide range of positive results, both for your pet as well as for your community.

Benefits of Spaying and Neutering

Millions of unwanted and stray animals are destroyed in shelters each year, and almost all of them could be prevented by having the parent animals spayed or neutered. Even the most well-behaved dog or cat can fall victim to a wild stray that gets in the yard, so having a house animal is no reason to skip the procedure. Avoiding unwanted litters will cut down on the feral cat and dog population in all parts of the country, as well.

Spaying and neutering are also good for your pet's health. Dogs and cats that have been altered live longer in virtually every case. The procedure prevents many types of cancer in both male and female animals, such as uterine cancer, testicular cancer, and many forms of breast cancer. Altered males don't have the urge to roam the neighborhood, giving them a safer lifestyle, and all pets that have undergone the procedure tend to live calmer and happier lives.

When to Have Your Pet Spayed or Neutered

We recommend all cats and dogs get altered between six and nine months of age, although it can be done as young as two months if the animal is in good health. When your younger pet is spayed or neutered, he'll only have a few days of recovery time before he's back to normal. Older dogs and cats can be altered, as well, with the same safe results. The only difference is that older pets tend to take longer to fully recover.
