Preventive & Primary Care

You may already view East Valley Emergency Pet Clinic as a trusted resource for pet emergency and critical care services and rightly so. But that doesn't mean our Diamond Bar emergency pet clinic isn't equally well equipped to serve as your pet's preventative and primary care provider for life. Dr. LeFave and Dr. McDonald are more than happy to provide routine but essential pet care services. This is an enormous help to pet owners who work odd hours and can't bring their best friends to a vet clinic during standard operating hours.

In the event of a pet emergency, you obviously want to rush your animal to our clinic for lifesaving critical care. But preventative and routine care can save lives too, in a more subtle but equally relevant fashion. Examples of such services include:

  • Physical Exam - Regularly-scheduled wellness exams reveal diseases and disorders in their earliest stages, allowing us to get them under control and maybe prevent a future pet emergency. A typical physical exam may include blood and fecal laboratory tests, external inspections (skin, eyes & ears) and weigh-ins to check for obesity.
  • Dental Health - We perform dental checkups and cleanings to detect oral cancer and prevent potentially dangerous periodontal infections. If a problem is found, we will provide the proper treatment to help your pet retain optimal dental function.
  • Vaccinations - Vaccinations against certain killer diseases can help you keep your pet out of the emergency room with a life-threatening illness. We routinely vaccinate against specific diseases such as rabies and distemper that endanger your dog, cat or other animal. We also provide scheduled booster shots to help your pet remain protected against these infectious agents.
  • Parasite Prevention - Fleas, ticks, heartworms and other parasites can cause serious r even fatal health problems. We can put your pet on preventive medications to keep him free of these unwanted guests.
  • Microchipping - Microchipping can make all the difference between losing your pet forever and being reunited with him. A tiny chip contains a unique radio-frequency identification number, or RFID. Your pet is linked to this number in a huge database. If your lost pet turns up at an animal shelter or clinic, a scanner can retrieve this information so you can be contacted.
  • Puppy and Kitten care - Puppies and kittens need more frequent wellness checks, vaccinations and other preventative care. We also advise spaying and neutering to help these animals avoid reproductive cancers and dangerous heat-related misbehaviors.
  • Senior Pet Care and Pain Management - Senior pets require extra attention because of age-related ailments such as diabetes, organ failure and hypertension. Chronic pain is another common issue, but our pain management services can help your elderly animal continue to enjoy life.
